Hi there I’m Beverly Martinez, and I’m thrilled you’ve stopped by. I live in Brooklyn, New York, where the city’s energy and pace are part of everyday life whether I’m navigating subway delays, browsing local design shops, or making the most of a rare quiet moment in Prospect Park. Before turning my attention fully to this blog, my career path traveled a few interesting routes, and all of them brought me here.
My Journey
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where I honed an appreciation for how things are made, how form meets function, and how everyday tools can quietly elevate our lives. After graduating, I spent five years working with a boutique accessory brand that catered to urban commuters designing modular bags, backpacks, and carry-gear that could adapt from bike to subway to office. It was a vibrant time: sketching prototypes, sourcing fabrics, juggling suppliers, and listening closely to riders and city-dwellers who asked for smarter solutions.
Eventually, I felt drawn to a different kind of storytelling. I spent two more years as a product manager at a lifestyle-brand e-commerce startup, surrounded by analytics, conversion rates, advertising budgets and while I learned a lot, I missed the hands-on discovery of what real people used, liked, or disliked in the wild. That longing is what led me here.

How the Blog Began
In early 2025, I launched this blog on almsnyc with one clear mission: to share honest product reviews, grounded in real-world usage, and to offer practical buying advice you can trust. My past background in design and commuting gear means I look beyond flashy specs and marketing jargon I want to know: How does it feel after a year of heavy use? Does the stitching hold up? Does the carry-handle rub, or does the zipper snag? I try each product long enough, under the kinds of conditions a city-dweller, weekend escape-goer, or remote-worker might experience.
What I Do Here
On this site you’ll find reviews across tech, lifestyle, carry-gear and home essentials anything I’ve personally tested, curated, and found worth sharing. I write in a straightforward style, with warmth and a little humor, because I believe the best advice isn’t cold and clinical it’s human. My goal is to give you real insight, so when you click “Buy” you feel confident you’re making the right decision. I’ll highlight not just what’s great, but also where things fall short, how they compare to alternatives, and whether they’re truly worth your time and money.
Why I Care
Living in a fast-moving city means you notice when things don’t work: when a strap rips, when a device battery fades, when commute gear just doesn’t hold up. I’ve lived that. I’ve been there. And I believe you shouldn’t have to compromise good design, smart engineering, and fair value can co-exist. This blog is my way of passing on what I’ve learned: tools, tips, and insights that help you spend less time worrying and more time doing.
